This Week’s Favorites

I love trying out new products.  At any given time I probably have at least 20-30 samples of different prooducts to try.  I find that there is no better way to see what products you like than to get a sample of it to take home and try with your daily makeup and hair.  I have tried face lotions, serums, primers, peels and even hair products.  I have loved some of the products and I have hated others.  You live and you learn, right?

Where do I get all these samples?  Well, I make what feels like my  weekly trip to Sephora and pick up some of my normal essentials, but I also snag a goodie bag of samples while I am there (don’t be afraid to ask, they always have some)!  Also my local Sephora does not always have what I am looking for in the store so I have to shop online.  Great thing about online is that you get free samples with E V E R Y single order.  Well after trying some of my latest samples I had to make a special trip back to grab the actual products because I liked them that much… So without further ado…

Bite Agave Lip Mask– I am obsessed with Chapstick and lipgloss (although I have never finished an entire tube of either because I lose it somewhere along the way), but Bite is my new favorite, and I think I might actually finish this tube, YAY! It is made with all natural products and leaves your lips hydrated and silky smooth.  This product tastes (of course I licked my lips as soon as I put it on, WHO DOESN’T?) and smells wonderful as well! I bought it in the satin finish that is a perfect pink color for my lips.  It adds just a hint of color and shine without all the sticky mess of your normal lipgloss.  I use it during the day with my makeup and at night before I go to sleep and my lips have never felt better.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter–  I have never really used a primer before (I am actually kind of shocked by this realization myself).  I keep getting samples of it and figured now was as good of a time as any.  I first tried the bare minerals blemish remedy mattifying prep gel and I did not like it all.  I couldn’t tell if I was applying it wrong or what but as soon as I put on my foundation or powder the primer was clumping up and coming off (pretty sure that is not supposed to happen)!  So I got a sample of the Becca Primer and immediately fell in love.  It gives your skin a dewy and bright look, which I know is what everyone is going for.  This primer is easy to put on, it blends in easily and it does not make your skin oily!  Day 3 and I just can’t express enough how great this product is. Primers really do make all the difference when used (who would have thought)!

Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray–  I have very fine and very straight hair.  I can’t use a lot of products because they weigh my hair down and/or make it too oily. I love texturizing sprays and salt sprays though because they give a little body and texture to my otherwise limp and lifeless hair.  Bumble and Bumble has apparently been around for a while, but this is the first time I have actually tried it and I am so glad that I did.  This surf spray is perfect for my hair.  It is lightweight and free from harmful chemicals.  It really does make your hair feel like you just got out of the ocean.  I have a little “crunch” in my hair after I have sprayed it and style my hair.  It smells great and doesn’t weigh down my hair AT ALL.  I bet if you have curly or wavy hair this product would be even more amazing, but sadly I will never experience those coveted curls unless I make them myself!  I like this product so much that I am about to buy a few more bumble and bumble products (and that is saying something because they are not cheap $$)!

Now there is no telling what great new things will come out next week or even the week after that, but for the time being I just cant get enough of my new favorites!

What’s In Your Purse?

I find purses absolutely fascinating.  I mean most women do, but I find them fascinating for a completely different reason than the obvious aesthetically pleasing sight of them.

What is inside of them?  Do you ever wonder what other people put in their purses?  Sometimes I see someone with a bag, that is bigger than a backpack, and wonder what the hell they could possible be carrying around inside of that luggage.  Other times I see people carrying around a small clutch and wonder how that is even possible in this day and age.  You can barely fit your cell phone in a clutch let alone anything else!  Where is all of your stuff?

So as the saying goes, I will show you mine if you show me yours!

enlight1-5

Okay, so mine is pretty clean.  I don’t usually carry much in my purse.  I am probably one of the more reserved when it comes to this!  As you can see by the contents of my purse, I have a little obsession with lip products.  I have 5 right now (but I had about 10 until this weekend).  I try to clean my purse out on Sunday and get rid of the junk that I don’t need before the new week starts.  So from left to right lets see what we have!

  • White and brown leather coach wallet.  Nothing special about this wallet and it does not match my purse, which for some of you out there is a big deal!  No judgement, I just don’t have money to drop $100-$300 on a purse to match each bag that I have!
  • My Captain America 3 Civil War Movie Ticket because I just saw it and I have not put it in my memory box yet!
  • Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in Party Starter– For me, this is almost a perfect nude with just a hint of pink and shine to it.  I love this stuff.
  • Alba pineapple quench lip balm– I am a sucker for any kind of hawaiian product (since I was born and raised there).  This lip balm almost feels a little scratchy when you are putting it on, but it covers your lips completely and is not oily.  This is my favorite smelling chap stick because it smells like Pineapple! Yum!  Doesn’t taste bad either!
  • Beauty counter Lip Sheer in Petal– So I have posted about beauty counter products before and this is no exception.  These products are not made with any harmful ingredients and are all natural.  The petals is a very soft pink and the sheer lives up to it hypes giving your lips just a little bit of a shimmer to them!  Plus who doesn’t love the beautiful gold container!
  • My car keys with a Bumble bee and Daryl Dixon attached because WHY NOT?
  • My iPad
  • My Geek’d Con Tickets that I just bought
  • An assortment of hair clips and hair ties.  I workout most afternoons so I always keep hair clips and ties with me so I can throw my hair up once I get there!
  • Blistex medicated lip balm– this is the best balm if your lips are chapped or even feeling extra dry.  This will healing them so quickly and make them super soft again!  I tend to use this one at night to repair my lips while I am sleeping.
  • Jack Black Lip Balm in Natural Mint– I love how this makes my lips tingle!
  • Lily Pulitzer glasses (for work and writing this blog!)
  • Last but not least my Coach purse

So as you can see, nothing too crazy in my purse, just some of my favorite products that I just can’t seem to get enough of!  I have shown you mine, want to show me yours?

My Everyday Look…

I like routine and I semi-like consistency.  So when it comes to my day to day hair, it is no surprise that I don’t change it very much.  Now that doesn’t mean that I don’t change the style (because believe me, I do), but the length that it is right now and for my workdays, it is basically the same everyday!

My hair is very fine and as straight as an arrow and I hate it!  I know so many people that straighten their hair every single day to get what I have naturally, but I curl mine most days to get what some of you ladies have and hate.  The grass is always green on the other side.  We always want what we don’t have.  Blah blah blah…

I need/want volume in my life.  My hair is limp and did I mention straight if I just let it do it’s own thing.  Everyday I actually do something (curl, straighten, braid, etc…) to my hair.  This is a must!

To start off I take a shower and wash my hair everyday!.

YES, I wash my hair E V E R Y D A Y.  I have tried not washing it and I just can’t do it.  I have tried dry shampoo and it is just not for me.

Moving on…

After I wash it, I blow dry it.  Then I start with the curling.  I alternate between a curling iron and a wand.  It just depends on my mood that day.  Today was a tapered wand!

I then part my hair into sections and start curling from the bottom up (like most normal people in the world)… I don’t actually know anyone that curls from the top down!

I take a section of hair, hold my wand upside down and start wrapping my hair around the wand and hold it there for a couple of seconds.

After all my hair is curled I spray a little hair spray on it and let it all cool and set while I am doing my makeup.

And now the final result!

A final spray with my trusty hairspray and we are good to go.  Throughout the day, the curls will settle a little bit and give you a looser and bouncier curl. This is a great look for work as well as for a night out with the girls or just anything in between. Have fun with your style no matter what you choose!

Contour This…

I have scoured the internet for every YouTube video I could find on contouring.  I literally have watched them all in complete fascination.

I am like every other girl/woman out there. I love makeup. I do my makeup everyday. It makes me feel pretty and I like it… I don’t care if people want to judge me because I wear makeup because it is not for them, it is for me… Moving on. There is one thing about makeup that I have never tried but I have always wanted to and by now you can probably guess what that is… C O N T O U R I N G!

I am absolutely amazed by what some of these people can do with makeup. You can literally turn yourself into Taylor Swift! Who doesn’t want to be Taylor? I know I would love to be Taylor!

Although I love this concept, I am completely terrified by it. There is no way that if I contour my face that I will not look like a hot mess! I have anxiety just thinking about doing it. Since I have now watched countless hours of contouring videos on YouTube (don’t you dare judge me because you are just as guilty) I feel like there is no better time than the present to try out this process.

DISCLAIMER:: I HAVE NEVER TRIED TO CONTOUR BEFORE… PINKY PROMISE, SCOUTS HONOR, SWEAR ON MY SHOES, NEVER TRIED IT::

I decided to start off with a powder contouring kit.  I recruited my BFF Alexis to try as well (also a newbie to the contouring world) and off we went.  I chose the Smashbox kit for us that I got from Sephora.

So as you can see, the results were a little disappointing.  We started with completely fresh faces with ZERO makeup on. Once we contoured according to the videos and diagrams we both felt that we did not see a big enough difference that it would warrant us doing this ever again.  We have to have missed something.  How did we get basically NO results?    Completely discouraged I decided that contouring was just not for me.

2 Days later and countless more hours of beauty videos on Youtube…

I was not ready to give up.  I could do this.  I wanted to see the results that I saw on YouTube, so I went back to the store and chose a cream palette by NYX.  I came straight home from work and decided to give it another try.

This time I was actually impressed.  I could see my results!  I don’t know if it had something to do with me already having makeup on or if it was the cream palette or both, but it worked!  It may not be perfect because obviously I will need to practice it a little bit more but I definitely felt like this could be worth doing.  Now I see what all the fuss is about!  YAY!

Although I likes the results I do not think that this is a feasible option for me to do every day because it did take longer than my normal makeup routine, but for a girls night out or a fancy dinner, YOU BET YOUR SWEET ASS I would do it again!

Go give it a try.  It is not as scary as I originally thought.  Recruit a friend or 2 to practice with you.

Love,

Bri
