Easy MoHawk Hair

Have you seen women with what I like to call the Mohawk hair (long on the top and back and shaved on the sides) and thought that you could/would totally rock that hair?  I have… numerous times.  Problem is I DO NOT have the guts to do it.  I am too worried what it would look like with my face shape, plus I have pointy ears that stick out…  Short hair worries me!   I wish I had the guts to do it.  A prime example of this hairstyle is Kelly Osbourne.

While I may not have the guts to actually go and shave the sides of my hair, I can still get this look in just a few simple steps.  I get the best of both worlds!  I can keep my longer hair, while still feeling edgy from time to time…

This hairstyle should take you about 10 minutes to complete from start to finish!

First you will separate your hair into small sections and secure with small rubber bands (I used colors so you could see!).  The smaller the sections the tighter/smoother you can get the sides.  For the sake of this how-to I went with a more messy look and didn’t do as many sections.

Once you have all of your sections secure, get a teasing comb and starting making it big!  You will want a lot of volume once you start pinning it all down!

Now you will get your bobby pins and start bunching your hair up around each ponytail bottom.  You goal is to cover the ponytails so it is just a straight line back and you can’t see the underneath!  This step does not have to be perfect.  I actually prefer it to be a bit messy.

And now you are done!

So now the next time you have an 80’s party or you just feel like doing something a little different, you can!  This may not be for everyone or every occasion, but it is definitely still worth a try!

My Everyday Look…

I like routine and I semi-like consistency.  So when it comes to my day to day hair, it is no surprise that I don’t change it very much.  Now that doesn’t mean that I don’t change the style (because believe me, I do), but the length that it is right now and for my workdays, it is basically the same everyday!

My hair is very fine and as straight as an arrow and I hate it!  I know so many people that straighten their hair every single day to get what I have naturally, but I curl mine most days to get what some of you ladies have and hate.  The grass is always green on the other side.  We always want what we don’t have.  Blah blah blah…

I need/want volume in my life.  My hair is limp and did I mention straight if I just let it do it’s own thing.  Everyday I actually do something (curl, straighten, braid, etc…) to my hair.  This is a must!

To start off I take a shower and wash my hair everyday!.

YES, I wash my hair E V E R Y D A Y.  I have tried not washing it and I just can’t do it.  I have tried dry shampoo and it is just not for me.

Moving on…

After I wash it, I blow dry it.  Then I start with the curling.  I alternate between a curling iron and a wand.  It just depends on my mood that day.  Today was a tapered wand!

I then part my hair into sections and start curling from the bottom up (like most normal people in the world)… I don’t actually know anyone that curls from the top down!

I take a section of hair, hold my wand upside down and start wrapping my hair around the wand and hold it there for a couple of seconds.

After all my hair is curled I spray a little hair spray on it and let it all cool and set while I am doing my makeup.

And now the final result!

A final spray with my trusty hairspray and we are good to go.  Throughout the day, the curls will settle a little bit and give you a looser and bouncier curl. This is a great look for work as well as for a night out with the girls or just anything in between. Have fun with your style no matter what you choose!

Contour This…

I have scoured the internet for every YouTube video I could find on contouring.  I literally have watched them all in complete fascination.

I am like every other girl/woman out there. I love makeup. I do my makeup everyday. It makes me feel pretty and I like it… I don’t care if people want to judge me because I wear makeup because it is not for them, it is for me… Moving on. There is one thing about makeup that I have never tried but I have always wanted to and by now you can probably guess what that is… C O N T O U R I N G!

I am absolutely amazed by what some of these people can do with makeup. You can literally turn yourself into Taylor Swift! Who doesn’t want to be Taylor? I know I would love to be Taylor!

Although I love this concept, I am completely terrified by it. There is no way that if I contour my face that I will not look like a hot mess! I have anxiety just thinking about doing it. Since I have now watched countless hours of contouring videos on YouTube (don’t you dare judge me because you are just as guilty) I feel like there is no better time than the present to try out this process.

I decided to start off with a powder contouring kit.  I recruited my BFF Alexis to try as well (also a newbie to the contouring world) and off we went.  I chose the Smashbox kit for us that I got from Sephora.

So as you can see, the results were a little disappointing.  We started with completely fresh faces with ZERO makeup on. Once we contoured according to the videos and diagrams we both felt that we did not see a big enough difference that it would warrant us doing this ever again.  We have to have missed something.  How did we get basically NO results?    Completely discouraged I decided that contouring was just not for me.

2 Days later and countless more hours of beauty videos on Youtube…

I was not ready to give up.  I could do this.  I wanted to see the results that I saw on YouTube, so I went back to the store and chose a cream palette by NYX.  I came straight home from work and decided to give it another try.

This time I was actually impressed.  I could see my results!  I don’t know if it had something to do with me already having makeup on or if it was the cream palette or both, but it worked!  It may not be perfect because obviously I will need to practice it a little bit more but I definitely felt like this could be worth doing.  Now I see what all the fuss is about!  YAY!

Although I likes the results I do not think that this is a feasible option for me to do every day because it did take longer than my normal makeup routine, but for a girls night out or a fancy dinner, YOU BET YOUR SWEET ASS I would do it again!

Go give it a try.  It is not as scary as I originally thought.  Recruit a friend or 2 to practice with you.
